One thing
for sure is that this section of the book is not going to win
over those of you who are still reading. What should you not
be doing if you want to become a millionaire? You probably
already know, but for those of you who might need a little
reminder here it goes.
Watching
television is a real poor slob killer.
No matter
how hard you try to deny it, we are all watching a hell of a
lot of television, which means that we are being bombarded
with television commercials and the business of marketing
media placement that occurs in most of the television shows we
all watch.
Most
people I talk too deplore television and swear up and down a
flag pole that they are not watching there 65 inch plasma
screen television sets that are sitting smack in the middle of
their living rooms. Na, nobody is watching. According to
national statistics, sales of new plasma screen televisions
are reaching all time highs. That combined with the new cable
subscriptions means that almost 98 percent of the people in
the United States own a television are now watching something
on the hundreds of television networks that are out also
reporting record ad revenue, and that doesn’t include the
internet and other media services that are available that
slowly pick our pocket clean.
The 2
percent who are not hooked up are the ones who own the
companies that are spending our money building mansions and
security systems to keep the poor slobs at bay, and the
survivalist locked away in bunkers in Montana and West
Virginia.
No matter
what it is that you say to others, you and I know that
somewhere in your life chances are that you are, or have
watched a hell of a lot of television. Now, you take your
television viewing and combine it with cruising the internet,
and I can guarantee you that whatever it is that you have
watched has in no way contributed to making your first million
dollars.
Add it up.
The cost of a plasma screen television will set you back a
grand or two, plus the DVD player, wall mount, and whatever
other cabling you will need. Added to the cost initial cost of
the boob tube is the cost of the cable, movie rentals, and the
value of the time that you will ultimately waste sitting in
front of it. Now if you’re already rich, what the f***, watch
till your eye’s bleed. Your rich and can do as you please. But
if you are not already rich, then you are seriously wasting
away your life watching other people doing things that you
should be doing.
So then
what do you do? Simple, turn it off and get out and do
something to make your dreams happen.
The
Internet
Jesus,
what a mixed blessing this has turned out to be. On one hand
the internet can be a valuable tool in which to help you to
get rich, but on the other hand it is a distraction that
diverts a huge amount of your energy away from what it is that
you should be doing in the first place, and that is doing
something to get you closer to your goals that will make you
rich.
If your
using the internet to research your business idea or to write
something and are producing tangible results which will bring
in the bucks, then keep doing whatever it is that you are
doing. Problem is that producing tangible results only
applies to a small number of us who are using the internet for
those purposes. Most of us go onto the internet in search of
pornography and any other useless information.
The
internet is not that much different from television. It is
designed for the consumption and sharing of media. Where
there’s media, there’s advertising to make a buck. And where
there’s a buck to be made there’s useless information. So once
again, the overall value of the internet is not to the
consumer so much as it is to the large corporations who are
still figuring out how to squeeze more bucks out of the
internet. So that means the internet is a losing proposition
to most of us.
What the
internet means is that unless you are using it to make money,
which most of us are not, then somewhere down the line, you
are going to pay for something. And like most consumerism, it
means that you are going to be probably paying for things that
you really do not need.
The bottom
line here is that if you have to use the internet as a tool
for growing a business, then by all means, use it. But if
you’re using it to pound your tool to make knuckle babies and
searching for ways to get rich quick, then you are defeating
yourself and you will probably never achieve your goals.
Distractions
To get
rich, the poor slob must stay away from easily available mind
detractions and that includes computer games, video games and
whatever else is out there to distract you. Unless you are
developing a game of your own, or operating a successful
online business, then you should stay the hell away from these
time eating, money gulping, bottomless pits.
