One thing
that this book constantly points out is that you need to force
yourself to break the cycle of buying things that you think
you need to help get you out of the mess that you are in. In
all probability it is the buying of things that you don’t need
that got you into whatever mess that it is that you are in, in
the first place. If you are planning on buying something and
don’t really need it, don’t do it!
Save!
Yes,
that’s right. Save! When you see a penny on the ground, pick
it up and put it in your pocket and remember its one penny
closer to your first million dollars. Every cent that you
spend is one cent further away from your first million
dollars. Sound petty? Think about it for a moment. Most of us,
by the time we are thirty have already grossed around a half
million dollars or so. Now then, how much of that ends up in
your savings account? If your like most people, not much.
Now you
can bitch and complain about everything, but the fact remains,
that most of us spend ourselves into a life of poverty while
listening to ipods and watching high definition video. If you
are going to get on the road to that first million, then you
had better start changing the way you think about money today.
What can
you do to save? The list here is pretty much endless. For
starters here are some areas where you can shave a buck or two
and get that money where it belongs.
The Star
Bucks Factor
Starbucks
is a great example of where we can get some of our money back.
We all love our lattes and all those pussy coffee drinks, but
we pay a premium for the pleasure, and the addiction. Give
them up! Modify your liquid intake! Let's put Star Bucks out
of business by refusing to pay 4.95 for a latté. But since
that is probably not going to happen, then at least, cut back.
Star
bucks saving tip.
Instead
of paying for a $ 4.95 latté order up four shots over ice in a
Grande cup, then walk over to the service counter and pour in
the milk. See! Right there I saved you over two dollars a day!
(Do the numbers. $2.00 per day x 7 = $14.00) so, in one week
you have saved the purchase price of this book.
Fact of
the matter is, if you can't give up the buying the lattés then
at least make some of them at home.
To tell
you the truth, until I started writing this book, I had no
idea where my money was going, and I was too ashamed to ask
other people where there money was going so I had no idea,
until I started writing this book that a lot of other people
did not know where there money was going.
If you do
know where your money is going, and you’re investing and
preparing for retirement, then you do not need to be reading
this book. Take it back to the book store and get your money
back.
But chances are this is not the case. Most of us earthlings
have no idea where our money is going to. America is on a
money spending bender that has not stopped since the end of
World War II. Now it’s up to you to do your part, and stop
spending!
